Zones 10-13 (hot, frost rare or absent) (Loxahatchee, FL): Frost is rare here (about 359 frost-free days a year); most years see little or no hard freeze. This is a tender crop. In climates like this one, tender and very-tender crops typically go in before the hottest months arrive, not on a frost-relative schedule.
Cucumbers go outside one to three weeks after your last frost, whether direct-seeded or transplanted. Colorado State University Extension classifies cucumber tender (Fact Sheet 7.212), a tier that would nominally allow planting right at the frost date, but Colorado State's own guidance notes that transplants should be delayed until frost potential is fully over, pushing the practical window later than the nominal tender rule alone would suggest. Purdue Extension (HO-186-W) classifies cucumber very tender outright, a full tier stricter than Colorado State's label. This page keeps Colorado State's tender classification but uses the later, one-to-three-week-after window that reconciles the two.
Soil should read 60°F before seeding or transplanting. Days to maturity run 50 to 70 counted from seed; NC State Extension's 28-to-37-day figure is counted from transplant instead and is not directly comparable, so it is excluded from the range here rather than combined with the from-seed figures into a misleading single number.
In a cold-winter climate, waiting past the nominal frost-tier window matters more for cucumber than for a true tender crop, since Colorado State itself flags the delay; in a mild-winter climate the one-to-three-week rule still applies, it simply starts from an earlier frost date.
Cucumbers are sold both as seed for direct-sowing once soil hits 60°F and as transplants in cell packs for a head start; direct-seeding is the more common route once the soil has genuinely warmed, given the delay Colorado State recommends.

CSU (anchor) places cucumber in its Tender tier but explicitly notes transplants are "delayed until frost potential is over" - so the practical window (1-3wk after frost) is later than the nominal Tender rule (~0wk). PURDUE instead classifies cucumber as very_tender outright. Flagged disagreement; used CSU's tender label with the later practical window. DTM: NCSU's 28-37 reads as days-from-transplant; MOEXT's 65-70 and CSU's 55 are from-seed. Reported from-seed range.
